2. Big Bad Breakfast: Can You Book a Table?
No. The restaurant says it plainly on its own site: reservations are not accepted, walk-in only. For large groups, call ahead or join the waitlist before you leave the house.
It is at 456 Meeting Street and opens daily from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This is the full sit-down diner on the list, from chef John Currence, with biscuits, gravies and jams made in house and Marsh Hen Mill grits from South Carolina. There is a pet-friendly patio outside.

3. Babas on Cannon: The Quiet One
An old world cafe on Cannon Street, one block off King, serving espresso and house-made pastries from 7 a.m. It is a coffee-and-a-pastry morning, not a plate of eggs.
The address is 11 Cannon Street, in the Cannonborough-Elliottborough neighborhood, which makes it the closest spot on this list to our homes. Breakfast runs into sandwiches and salads at lunch, then wine and cocktails in the evening.
